Ribbon Cutting for Mi'kmaq Wellness Center in Presque Isle
On September 1st, Karl was privileged to speak briefly before roughly 150 assembled guests at the official ribbon cutting for the new two-million-dollar Mi'kmaq Wellness Center in Presque Isle. He spoke about the economic impact of the construction spending in the region, and more importantly about the spiritual significance of the eagle-shaped design of the building as it pertains to Mi'kmaq beliefs and lore. Many kudos to Nickerson & O'Day project manager Tim Porter superintendent Lee Bryant for their outstanding work on this latest Nickerson & O'Day creation!
Central Community Elementary School Project
Yesterday, Karl traveled to East Corinth where he toured our nearly completed $22M Central Community Elementary School project. We are very close and putting the finishing touches on the entire building. So fun to see the excited looks on all of the teacher's faces as they moved their teaching materials into their respective classrooms! We have all been waiting for this day for nearly two years since Nickerson & O'Day began the project. Looking forward to a fun ribbon-cutting next week!
Presque Isle Community Center Project
On July 26th, Karl trekked north to The County to check in on our $8M Presque Isle Community Center project. The job looks great and headed toward a mid-September completion thanks to the efforts of project manager Tim Porter and 21-year Veteran superintendent Tony Tinto. Looking forward to a fun ribbon cutting and open house!
To Those Who Care Awards
On July 21st, as a sponsor and member of the Board of Governors, Karl had the honor of helping to choose the recipients of the WLBZ2 To Those Who Care Awards at the Channel2 offices in Bangor. The qualifications and incredible volunteerism and years of service that these nominees present is awe-inspiring. Very difficult choice and the votes were close. Stay tuned in November for the broadcast from Nickerson & O'Day-built Gracie Theatre at Husson University. Who knows, maybe you know one of the winners!
Downeast Community Hospital Emergency Department Groundbreaking
On July 20th, Karl was proud to help direct a wonderful groundbreaking ceremony for the new $4M Downeast Community Hospital Emergency Department project that will be constructed his my company, Nickerson & O'Day, Inc beginning next month. This important work will double the size of the current ED, will create nearly 150 construction jobs and spinoff over $25M in economic activity...all right here in Maine. Thank you to DECH for choosing a Maine company for this work!

Presque Isle Community Center Project
July 8th: Nickerson & O'Day continues toward an on-time, on-budget completion of our 12-month-long, $8M Presque Isle Community Center project! Job looks great and kudos to NOD PM Tim Porter and Superintendent Tony Tinto and our ALL-MAINE team of subcontractors, many of them from The County! This effort provided over 100 construction jobs and infused over $50M of economic activity into the Maine economy! Ribbon-cutting planned for later this summer!!
Nickerson O'Day (NOD) continues to make great progress, despite the harsh winter, on the $6M Hartford Fire Station Addition and Renovation project in downtown Augusta! Project Manager Jamie Mahoney and 33-year NOD veteran Superintendent Fred Mason are erecting the steel framework and soon will begin roofing and enclosure. Completion scheduled for this Christmas...a great present for the hardworking first responders at Augusta Fire!
Our HUGE Nickerson O'Day crew at the new $50M Nokomis Junior and High School continue pushing forward with foundations, masonry stair towers and steel, despite the challenging weather! Across the street from the old Nokomis building, this 216,000 sf facility will open in Fall, 2019 and the old school will be demolished afterward. A tremendous asset to the Newport Region!Read more ...
Nickerson O'Day is proud to announce a $15,000.00 donation to the amazing staff and administration at Downeast Community Hospital in Machias, targeted to outfit the new Children's Exam Room in the new $4M Emergency Department Addition we just completed :). Gone are the typical blank walls and now a new, more inviting and less scary room is available for their youngest patients! Great folks who do a fantastic job! Happy to help "give back"!
