Since breaking ground in April 2023, we’ve been literally laying the groundwork for this much needed facility. Hundreds of cubic yards of ledge were blasted and hammered through the Fall to make way for the foundations which will support this facility. The solar panels and EV chargers are just a few examples of the ways that this project will be “green” and environmentally friendly. See the link to today’s MaineBiz highlighting this project.

On a breezy December day, nearly 3 years after the project was first conceived by the Town of Orland, Nickerson & O’Day facilitated a groundbreaking for the new Orland Fire Station. “We have had our eye on this project since early 2021 when we first heard rumblings about it within town circles” said Randy Chute, NOD Project Manager. NOD also retained the same design firm that produced the feasibility study for the town in 2021 to be responsible for the final design, Lewis + Malm Architecture of Bucksport. Local subcontractors and vendors will be utilized wherever possible. The project is getting started at a time when other projects are shutting down for the winter. NOD crews will utilize ground thaw equipment and insulating blankets to prevent frost and freezing temperatures from hampering progress. If all goes well during construction a ribbon cutting will be held in fall of 2024 to welcome firefighters into their new home.

November 16th, 2023, we took a proverbial bite out of hunger by driving a dump truck full of food over to a building we renovated, the OHI Food Pantry in Brewer. After unloading, cataloging, and sorting the food the final tally came in over 1200 pounds of non-perishables! We also heard from the manager, Karen that our arrival was quite literally just in the nick of time….Not only were they as low as they’ve ever been on food, this was the largest donation they’ve received this year! But don’t let that discourage you, no donation is too small and every donation is greatly appreciated. If you have non-perishable food, reusable shopping bags, or cardboard boxes that you would like to donate they would love to see you too! Things like pasta, sauce, and canned goods are always near the top of their list of things they need the most.

Nickerson & O’Day, Inc. has joined forces with the Maine Department of Transportation again for another amazing project. This time, to aid Acadia National Park, the City and people of Trenton in achieving their sustainability goals. The last phase of the Acadia Gateway Center project will offer tourism information about the area, the ability to purchase park passes, charge your electric vehicle and more, like a worry free shuttle system to and from Sand Beach, Thunder Hole, and much more!

Follow us to see how together with project team members we create a transit center that may make our summers on the coast even more enjoyable.

Please join us in congratulating Ignite Presque Isle, community members, and hotel guests as they cut the ribbon on their newly renovated space. Some of the renovated areas include Rodney’s, a restaurant named in honor of Mary Smith’s late husband, and a new state-of-the-art Innovation Center.

Rodney’s Restaurant renovations also extended into the commercial kitchen and included adding new workstations and prep areas.

The Innovation Center will open in early January 2023 and will serve as a hub for entrepreneurs that require 24/7 access to work space. For more than 90 years The Northeastland has played an important role in the community, many senior proms and weddings were held here. As times have changed the hotel has been forced to adapt. Ignite P.I. hopes that their substantial investment in modernizing the hotel will attract fresh businesses and customers to downtown Presque Isle, an area that previously would have been passed by.

Check out the recent news as Phase I comes to a close. Negotiations are already underway for Phase II. The second phase will involve renovating the 50 hotel guest rooms. Check back soon for more updates on this important project, located in the heart of The Star City.
